Bale and Theo. Have Bale gotten better than Theo ? Is Bale a better footballer ? This topic has been going around since Spurs battered Inter convincingly with a two goals lead. Gareth Bale was undoubtly the best player on that night. He ran, he dribbled, he passed, he assisted, and almost did everything in his power to outclass Inter at that night. It was a brilliant performance since it was Maicon- one of the best wing back in the world, who was tasked to keep Bale from being a naughty boy. But alas! Maicon can't keep Bale quiet, Bale was killing Inter's defence with his pace. I even caught Maicon jogging when Bale ran pass him, I might be wrong on this. However, having compairing them I can't see Maicon doing enough effort to catch the Welsh. I guess he was tired chasing Bale the whole match. Now, you can see what a frightening pace can kill an experienced defence like Inter regardless what situation Inter in.
Seeing that display, I can't think of anything else but Theo. Hey ! Arsenal has a player who is also love to terrorize others with his pace. So the issue came up. Who is better? Who is faster? As for who is the faster one, Bale has admitted himself that Theo is faster than him. But there's no real indication yet who is the better footballer. However, logically if Theo is faster than Bale, then of course Theo can bring more damage to the opposition, which giving a resultant of Theo being the better footballer. Don't you think so ?
Being not satisfied enough with that simple (absurd) arithmetic equation. I tried to compare their Premier League statistic so far this season. Before we reach there, I can't help myself to think that both of these pacey players were alumni of Southampton FC. Then, I wonder what have Southampton done to these two. Dog chasing method came across in mind. If some of you are happened to live around the area, please confirm us about this issue. *LoL* Ok, back to topic. I will compare only this season statistic because the main issue is to judge whether the current Bale is better than Theo. Well, it's not like Theo's last season statistic was that bad. He just lost to Bale in term of number of assists having started less than the Welsh.
This season, Theo has scored four in five Premier League games with three of them started from the bench. He also added an assist into his account. Compared with Theo, Bale's statistic can't be considered good at the moment. Having started ten games in a row, Bale has just added two goals and no assist in his current account in the Premier League. It seems like others have identified Bale as Spurs main threat nowadays. My assumption proved to be right when ManU decided to give Bale extra care. Thus, I think in term of Premier League statistic Theo is still ahead of the Welsh. I know what is in your mind when you read up to that last paragraph. It would be something like, "Hey ! football is not all about statistic. You (enter keyword) blogger". I myself believe that a performance can't be measured by statistic alone, but mind you the statistic is the best indicator that states the undeniable fact of player's effectiveness on the pitch. I guess we all agree we will moan when we play like "cinderella" but ended goalless.
Of course readers need to be satisfied. Thus, I will try to give my thoughts on their style of play to make the final comparison of these two young sensations. I think there is a fundamental difference between their style of play. While Theo tends to wait for the through passe, Bale tends to drive the ball upfront through the side. On this term, I admit that recent Bale shows left an impression of a better dribbler than Theo, especially on Inter encounters. However, in term of positioning I reckon Theo is superior than Bale. He has shown it a bunch of times when he outran any defender when the ball was placed way behind the defender. In general, they have different style of play and each styles has their own way to prove their effectiveness. However, the statistic has placed Theo on the pole position to claim himself better than Bale.
With the facts and thoughts given above, I decided to identify Theo as the better footballer for the mean time. How about you ? Please give your thoughts on the comment section below.
